Mujahideen guerilla
A poster of Ahmad Shah Masood, an Afghan military leader who was instrumental in driving the Soviet Union army out of Afghanistan. In 1992 Masood became Defence Minister of Afghanistan under President Burhanuddin Rabbani. Following the collapse of Rabbani's government Masood became the military leader of the Northern Alliance (also know as the United Front) a group of factions opposed to Taliban and their growing control. Masood was assassinated in 2001. Australian peacekeepers were involved in de-mining and planning operations in Afghanistan as part of UNMCTT (UN Mine Clearance Training Team) from 1989 to 1993.The translation of the text at the bottom of the poster reads' Afghan beloved Commander Engineer Ahmad Shah Masood the leader of supervisory Council of the North'.
