Description
Letters relating to the First World War service of Brigadier General Harold Edward Elliott, 15th Brigade. Some of the letters were censored by Pompey, and later his daughter Violet prior to donation removing details of a personal nature. The letters cover April 1915 - December 1916 detailing; his gratitude towards his sister-in-law for taking care of his family; his separation from his 7th Battalion to take care of the 1st Brigade; black silk he bought in Cairo for his wife and her sister; the state of the trenches; his men being wounded and killed; the good work of his men; the strengthening of the German line; the better state of the trenches in France than Gallipoli; the terrible weather affecting both them and the Germans; an illness which may send him to hospital; potential alliances between the Germans and the Russians.
