Letters from Cecil Beaumont Mills to his wife, 1915
Description
File of letters relating to the First World War service of Second Lieutenant Cecil Beaumont Mills, 23 Infantry Battalion. These letters were written by Mills to his wife between 27 October and 31 December 1915. In his letters, Mills discusses the following: his departure from Melbourne; life on board the HMAT Ulysses; his activities in Egypt while stationed at the camp in Zeitoun; training at Zeitoun; and the rumours of the front line that he hears from other soldiers, including the evacuation of Gallipoli and the sights he sees in and around Cairo.
Also included is a letter from Mills to his wife to be sent 3 months after his death in which he mentions how much he loves his wife and that if he dies in war to raise their son well and move on if she wishes.
