Letters of Kenneth Charles von Bibra, March-April 1941
Description
Letters relating to the Second World War service of VX29109 Private Kenneth Charles von Bibra, 21st Anti-Tank Battery. In his letters written to his wife Joan between January and February 1941, Kenneth describes his daily life serving in Palestine. Some his experiences include a New Year’s Eve concert held for troops, a mole burrowing into their tent, doing shift work, a toilet-paper shortage, going to the picture theatre, leave in Tel-Aviv, visiting his hospitalised friend in Haifa, a dust storm, writing a magazine alongside several fellow soldiers, a drastic hair cur, attending lectures, and taking part in manoeuvres. Kenneth also regularly includes descriptions of the landscape and the local people that he encounters. He responds to points in Joan’s letters to him, and often discusses pictures that he saw at the theatre and books that he read. In every letter, Kenneth assures Joan of his love.
