Description
Letters relating to the Second World War service of 318689 Flying Officer Edward Lloyd Fleming, 550 Squadron. In his letters to his family dated between July and October 1945, Fleming shares his experiences as a pilot in training in the Royal Australian Air Force. Some of these experiences include leave in Ireland and England, travelling and sightseeing, ‘going steady’ with an Irish girl named Betty, celebrating the end of the war, attending dances, and becoming ill and recovering from jaundice, and embarking for Australia. Fleming also shares that he was disappointed that he had not been able to take part in any operations during the course of the war and expressed impatience to be home. He also shared his thoughts and questions about which career path to follow after the war.
