Diary relating to the service of Major Charles Patrick Tracey, 1945
Description
Diary relating to service of NX70508 Major Charles Patrick Tracey, 2/26 Battalion, Second World War. The diary covers the period between 1 January 1945 and 8 October 1945, covering Tracey’s time as a prisoner of war at Changi and his repatriation to Australia. The daily diary entries detail life around the camp, including the hosting of sports and concerts, the lack of supplies, and the prevalence of illnesses such as malaria. Tracey documents the bombings around Singapore and the slow transition of the camp away from Japanese control after their surrender. The diary also includes a list of books and recipes, as well as names and addresses.
