Description

Letters and miscellaneous papers relating to the Second World War service of VX25593 Warrant Officer Class 2 David Francis Smith, 8 Division Signals.

David Francis Smith joined the regular garrison at Queenscliff, Victoria in 1928 and the Second Australian Imperial Force in 1940. He then served in Malaya, but was taken as a prisoner of war of the Japanese in February 1942. He died of illness on 25 August 1943. This collection includes items from before, during, and after Smith’s service in the Second World War, such as letters of recommendation, official documents relating to his death, condolence letters, and certificates.
