Description
Notebook relating to the Second World War service of WX3453 Captain Avon Reah Smith-Ryan, 2/4 Australian Machine Gun Battalion.
This notebook was kept by Captain Smith-Ryan between December 1940 and May 1945 while he was a prisoner of war at Adam Park Camp and Changi. It contains personal accounts of actions taken by Australian soldiers in the lead up to the fall of Singapore on 15 February 1942. A record of atrocities and cruelties committed by the Japanese at Singapore Island on 19 February 1942, casualty lists, and camp conditions are also mentioned.
