Description

Casualty book relating to the Second World War service of VX50052 Lieutenant Austin Yeats Ellerman, 2/29 Battalion, Malaya and Thailand, 1942-1944.

A casualty book of the hospitalisation and deaths of men of the 2/29 Battalion as prisoners of war through illness and mistreatment at locations in Thailand between 1943 and 1944. The locations include Kanchanabri, Kanchanabri New Hospital Camp, Tarbaya, Kamai Sonkurai and other locations in Thailand between 1943 and 1944. The details include date, place and cause of death. The material has been compiled in an 'Admission and Discharge Book', Army Book 27.

The book also includes the poem 'Romance', handwritten by NX68384 Corporal Walter Duckenfield Eales in Changi, 2/3 Motor Ambulance Convoy, in December 1942. A typescript copy of the poem has been pasted into the casualty book at an unknown date.
