Description
Memoir relating to the Second World War service of VX50052 Captain Austin Yeats Ellerman, 2/29 Battalion, Australia, c 1955.
The 29-page typescript, entitled 'Austin in the Army - Reminiscences', describes Captain Ellerman's Second World Service. The memoir includes his training in the Bathurst area with the 38th Militia Battalion, the Bendigo Regiment, transfer to command of 9th Platoon, A Company, 2/29th Battalion, exchange duty with the 2nd Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, active service against the Japanese in Malaya and Singapore, unwilling surrender and experiences as a POW in Changi, forced labour on the Burma Thailand Railway, and his return to Changi in 1944 and subsequent release.
