This collection consists of photocopies of a variety of material relating to Robert Mactier's service. The majority of the photocopied material consists of personal letters sent to his sister Belle Crawford (née Mactier). He does not discuss the war in detail, with the subjects including the quality of food and home news. The collection includes a number of photocopied letters of condolence following Robert Mactier's death at Mont St Quentin, 01 September 1918. He was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross.

The collection also includes a handwritten summary of Robert Mactier's life and military career.

History / Summary

The envelopes in the collection are addressed to 'Mrs S J Crawford'. While Robert Mactier addresses his sister as Belle, her full name was Isabella Ross. She married Samuel J Crawford on 13 March 1912.

The author and date of the handwritten summary of Robert Mactier's life and military career are unknown, although it post-dates the dedication of the Mactier Club at Simpson Barracks, Watsonia, to his memory in May 1960.
