Collection relating to the Boer War and Russo-Japanese War reporting of Captain Robert Joseph MacHugh, Daily Telegraph, South Africa, Japan, Korea, China, 1897-1905.

Wallet 1 of 3 - This wallet contains original and photocopied material relating to MacHugh's reporting of the Boer War, South Africa, 1899-1900, and the Russo-Japanese War, China and Korea, 1904. The material includes five telegrams during the South African War, including two relating to the relief of Ladysmith, South Africa, July 1897 - March 1900; Pass issued on behalf of Chief of Staff Natal Field Force to remain in Ladysmith during the siege, 2 November 1899; photocopy of a letter written to Robert MacHugh's wife, November 1899; Travel Warrant for safe conduct through Japan, Korea and China, 5 January 1904; a letter written in Japanese to Maxim, journalist at the Daily Telegraph in London from Kennosuke Katsurai Kanazawa; admission pass to the Imperial Diet opening ceremony issued to newspaper journalists, 20 March 1904; receipts in Japanese for various items and hotel expenses while in Tokyo, 1904; photocopy of a telegram forwarded to London, reporting the crossing of the Yalu River, Korea, c. April 1904.
