Collection relating to the Boer War and Russo-Japanese War reporting of Captain Robert Joseph MacHugh, Daily Telegraph, South Africa, Japan, Korea, China, 1897-1905.

This collection is held in three wallets. Contents include original and photocopied correspondence and telegrams relating to MacHugh's reporting of the Boer War, South Africa, 1899-1900, including material relating to the siege of Ladysmith. The majority of the collection relates to the Russo-Japanese War, Korea, Japan, China, 1904-1905. This includes telegrams and receipts from travel in Japan and Korea; photocopied typescripts of press releases sent to the Daily Telegraph, London, reporting on the Russo-Japanese War, 1904-1905; Japanese-language books intended for children including propaganda and articles relating to the Russo-Japanese War. The collection also includes a menu from Oddenino's Imperial Restaurant, London, signed by people wishing MacHugh good luck and a safe return.
