Collection relating to the First World War service of 3238 Lieutenant Eric Arthur Ormond Baker, 59th Battalion, England and France. Collection consists mainly of letters (some with envelopes) and postcards written by Baker and sent home to his father and sister, Lina. There is also one letter from a French friend written to his sister, which comments of the effects of the war on French civilians. Also included is a annotated map of the Somme, noting the movements of the 59 Battalion in February 1918, two typescript narratives relating to the 59th Battalion's role in the capture of the Hindenburg line in late September 1918 - one written by Baker, the other by Lt Col J J Scanlon who was the battalion's commander.
