History / Summary
3361 Private Berthold Walter Beinke was born in Walloway, South Australia and enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force on 26 October 1916. He sailed from Adelaide on 10 February 1917 aboard HMAT Seang Bee as a member of 9 Reinforcements, 50 Battalion. He later transferred to 43 Battalion and was awarded the Military Medal in September 1918 for his actions as a stretcher bearer south of Bony in France. Beinke embarked for return to Australia on 7 February 1919.
