Beinke, Berthold Walter MM France 1918
Description
Letter of Private (Berthold) Walter Beinke MM (43 Battalion) to his parents from beside the Somme, dated 3 April 1918. It describes the penetration of the British lines by the German offensive of March 1918, and his participation with Australian forces in resisting it, as well as commenting on domestic concerns related to his family's farm in South Australia. Also a photograph of Beinke. Beinke's Military Medal, which he won the following September, is held by the AWM (REL26870.001).
