Shipman, John William (Flight Lieutenant)
Description
Collection relating to the service of 422085 Flight Lieutenant John William Shipman, 100 Squadron Royal Australian Air Force, 1942-1945. Collection comprises letters to his father during 1945, postcards, a flying log book recording aircraft type and number, pilot and duty with additional remarks, including details relating to the Beaufort Bomber A9-557 which is now held in the Memorial's collection. Shipman was killed in flying battle in New Guinea, 13 March 1945. Additional correspondence from the Directorate of War Graves Services to his brother, relates the location of his grave in Lae War Cemetery, May 1947.
