Metal name sign: Chaplain D A Ganly, 9 Battalion
Rectangular sign made from recycled tin. The front is painted cream and has a thin red border and two holes in the centre top and bottom. The word 'Chaplain' is written in cursive script over 'D. GANLY, C. OF E.' The reverse of the sign is yellow and the remains of red and black lettering can be seen as well as two black letters, 'C A'.
This sign is associated with VX114018 Chaplain Donald A Ganly, Church of England. Ganly was born in 1913 and served with 25/33 Garrison Battalion, 14 Prisoner of War and Internment Camp, Loveday Group at Barmera, South Australia in March 1943. In 1944 he served with 9 Battalion in the Pacific campaign. He was present during an attack by troops of 18 Platoon, D Company on Little George Hill on Bouganville Island on 29 November 1944.
