Description

Brown leather wallet secured by leather loop and press stud. The wallet has three pockets inside and an elastic strap in the centre fold. The first pocket on the left contains a rectangular stainless steel mirror with a leather tag. The pocket below this is empty. The pocket on the right side has a plastic window and a studio photograph of Chaplain Ganly's wife, Mollie Olive Ganly and their daughter Carolyn has been placed inside. The photograph is pasted on cardboard and captioned '...en to send to Don whilst in the Army-1943'. A copy of the New Testament is placed loose within the wallet. The fly leaf of the bible is inscribed with 'Don From Ruby Xmas 1932 Joshua 1.8' and a small adage.

History / Summary

Associated with VX114018 Chaplain Donald A Ganly, Church of England. Ganly was born in 1913 and served with 25/33 Garrison Battalion, 14 Prisoner of War and Internment Camp, Loveday Group at Barmera, South Australia in March 1943. In 1944 he served with 9 Battalion in the Pacific campaign, and was present during an attack on Little George Hill on Bouganville Island by troops of 18 Platoon, D Company on 29 November 1944.
