Charters Towers, Qld. Two members of the Women's Auxiliary Australian Air Force (WAAAF) trying to sleep under the Barracks Hut at the Charters Towers RAAF Wireless Telegraphy Station. When the heat became unbearable the WAAAFs would take their folding beds under the huts, hoping for a breeze so they could sleep. Members of the WAAAF working at the Townsville wireless station volunteered to travel to Charters Towers to open this telegraphy station.
