Description

Studio portrait of 2106 Sergeant Farquhar Henry Suthern MM and Edith Suthern (nee Hawkins) on their wedding day. They married at Templecame Parish Church, Pettigo, Ireland. Henry was originally from Berridale, NSW and his bride from Pettigo. Sgt Suthern enlisted on 5 September 1915 and served with the 13th Field Artillery Brigade (FAB). On 29 October 1917 he was awarded the Military Medal (MM) for his actions in maintaining a supply of ammunition and encouraging others to assist, 'setting a high example to his comrades and his conduct on this occasion is deserving of special recognition' was how his citation read in part.
