Description

Carved wooden walking stick featuring a pattern of raised leaves and flowers on a twisting vine. The head is an irregularly shaped knob like a seed pod, with many small knotholes in it and several carved indentations for fingers. Traces of red paint are visible on the upper and middle parts of the stick, and the whole appears to have been varnished, although many patches are now bare. The surviving varnish is blackened and cracking in some areas. The bottom third has the raised words 'CHANGI. DAYS' carved into it. The word 'DAYS' is flanked by a pair of leaves in which the numbers '1942' and '194 ' have been scratched. At the bottom of the stick is a ferrule made from a piece of brass tubing.
