Description

Circular aluminium identity disc engraved with '2016 SGT. W.S. DAWE 32 BATTALION'.The disc is threaded through a cotton tape with two attached enamelled medalets. The first is a red shield with a white cross in the centre surrounded by the letters 'M/M/S'. The other medalet is a yellow circlet in the shape of a garter with the words 'MY HEART'S RIGHT THERE'.

History / Summary

Worn by 2016 Corporal Walter Stanley Dawe, a Methodist minister from Kadina, South Australia. Dawe enlisted in the third reinforcements of 32 Battalion on 3 August 1915, as a soldier rather than a chaplain, and was killed in action at Messines on 20 February 1918 aged 28. He is buried at Messines Ridge British Cemetery.
