Description
Studio portrait of 18416 Warrant Officer 1 (WO1) George Snowdon MC, 7th Field Artillery Brigade (7FAB). A member of the unit since its formation, he was awarded the Military Cross for conspicuous courage and devotion to duty in operations at Ploegsteert, Messines and Ypres. His actions in maintaining guns in action by repairing them under trying and dangerous conditions, often at night and under bombardment, resulted in his receiving this award, a rare example of a Warrant Officer receiving a Military Cross.
