Informal portrait of Jack Shipman in flying gear. Posing in a suburban backyard, most likely taken on leave before joining his squadron. 422085 Flight Lieutenant John William (Jack) Shipman, Wireless Air Gunner of 100 Squadron RAAF was later killed on operations on 13 March 1945 over New Guinea when the aircraft exploded due to a faulty bomb fuse. The other crew members killed were 422062 Francis Owen (Frank) Smith of Manilla NSW, 415636 Harry John Fowler and 406817 Arthur Geoffrey Waite, both of Perth, WA.
