A- line blue woollen WAAAF winter service dress skirt. The skirt has front angle welt pockets and fastens on the left hand side with four hooks and eyes with a buckle and fabric strap on the waistband. A matching buckle and strap is sewn on to the right hand side to adjust the fit.
This skirt belonged to Flight Officer (Flt Off) 94786 Coralie Marie Gordon of Adelaide, South Australia. Flt Off Gordon enlisted in the Women's Auxiliary Australian Air Force on 18 March 1942 and was posted to 6 Fighter Sector Headquarters, Mt Lawley, Western Australia. She completed officer training at the School of Administration, Trinity College, Melbourne, receiving her commission in May 1943. She then worked in the Operations Room at 2 Fighter Sector Headquarters and 7 Fighter Sector Headquarters, Melbourne, until November 1944, when she was posted to the Allied Translator Intelligence Section, RAAF Command, Brisbane. Promoted to Flight Officer in January 1945, she then served at the Central Intelligence Unit as the editor of a weekly publication, 'The Objective Intelligence Report', until August 1945. She was discharged on 20 December 1945 and married 420562 Flying Officer William Dudley Hemmings DFC in April 1946.
