Distinguished Conduct Medal : Sergeant C T Law, 26 Battalion, AIF
Distinguished Conduct Medal (Geo V). Impressed around edge with recipient's details.
Awarded to 592 Sergeant Charles Thomas Law. Law, a 33 year old sailor from Great Britain, whose next of kin were listed as living at Guernsey, in the Channel Islands, enlisted in 26 Infantry Battalion, AIF, on 29 April 1915. In September 1918 he was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal for gallantry in the 2nd Australian Division's attack on Mont St Quentin. The Citation for the DCM reads as follows: 'During the attack on 2nd September 1918 east of MONT ST. QUENTIN near PERONNE, this N.C.O. was in charge of the Company Lewis Guns. When the advance was being checked by machine gun fire, he took the gun of one of his crews which had all become casualties, and carrying a few panniers, he single handed, under very heavy fire, worked to a flank, firing his gun from the hip, and by wonderfully accurate covering fire at short range, kept the enemy down, and enabled his company to capture the position.' Law returned to Australia on 8 April 1919. His Victory Medal is missing from his medal group.
