Bullet Pencil from Gift Tin : Corporal G L Trevillian 6 Battalion, AIF
MK VI .303 brass bullet cartridge containing a small pencil. Impressed on shaft of the cartridge is Princess Mary's crest. The headstamp on the cartridge is 'L VI C R' and a broad arrow. The 'head' of the bullet is made of sterling silver and holds a small pencil which fits into the body of the cartridge.
Associated with 155 Corporal George Leslie Trevillian of 6 Battalion AIF. He enlisted on 17 August 1914 and was killed in action during the second Battle of Krithia, on Gallipoli, on 8 May 1915. His body was not recovered and he is commemorated on the Cape Helles Memorial. This pencil was contained in a Princess Mary's Christmas Gift box. These gift boxes were sent to all British, Dominion and colonial troops who were serving overseas on Christmas Day 1914.
