Embroidered cushion cover with photograph frame : Harrison family
Black cushion cover panel embroidered with the words 'ADVANCE AUSTRALIA' above a crown. In the middle is a photo frame in the shape of a life buoy with two Australian flags on either side. Below the frame is an embroidered wreath.
Associated with the four Harrison brothers, Walter, Carlyle, Sidney and Wilfred who enlisted in the AIF. 3852 Private Walter Henry Grahame Harrsion enlisted on 12 January 1916 and served with 1 Battalion. He was killed in action on 3 October 1917. His brother Carlyle enlisted on 19 August 1914 and served with 1 Battalion as part of the Australian Army Medical Corps. He won the Military Medal in late 1917 and returned to Australia on 23 September 1918. The cushion cover is typical of souvenirs sent home to Australia by Australian troops during the First World War. A photograph of the soldier was often inserted into the 'frame'.
