Description
A concrete dugout in a trench near Malakoff Farm, in the Hindenburg Front Line System. The Hindenburg lines in this area were strengthened with many such emplacements, which afforded shelter for their troops under artillery fire. When captured from the enemy in the operations during the latter half of September, these dugouts, were often mined, and it was customary for the engineers to inspect them and mark those safe for occupation. (Note the chalked message on concrete).
