Description
Two disabled Mark V Male tanks at Ronssoy, France. 29 September 1918. The left hand tank bears the number 9116. This tank, serving in A Company, 4th Battalion, under the command of 2nd Lt Boulton, was disabled by a mine. A number of tanks were entirely disabled in the fighting near Duncan Post, Ronssoy, 29 September 1918, by land mines scattered amongst wire entanglements. One can be seen protruding from beneath the rear tank in the photograph. Duncan Post was the point from which the 27th American Division commenced their attack on the Hindenburg Main Line, 29 September 1918, and the disabling of many of their supporting tanks was a considerable handicap.
