Folder of 23 letters written to Field Marshal Lord William Birdwood by Sir James Allen, New Zealand Minister of Defence, between 31 March 1915 and 3 September 1918. In early 1917, Allen was awarded a KCB and this is reflected in the titles given to the letters within this file. This file also contains letters from other correspondents including General Sir Alexander John Godley and Major General Sir Neville Reginald Howse. Some of the topics covered in these letters include hospital ships, reinforcements, organisation of the dental and medical services, the military service bill, Wozzer riots in Cairo, and the training of New Zealand and Australian soldiers.
