Other Exhibitions

The Memorial has an active lending program that sees our collection items form part of exhibitions in other museums, shrines and cultural institutions. Below is a list of current significant items currently on loan, and where you can see them around Australia and internationally. Menin gate lion

The Menin Gate Lions, which can normally be seen at the internal entrance of the Memorial in Canberra, are temporarily in their original home in the city of Ieper (Ypres) in Belgium as part of commemorations of the First World War. The Menin Gate lions will return to the Memorial after Remembrance Day 2017.

Lockheed Hudson

The Lockheed Hudson Mark IV Bomber is now on display at the Virgin Australiacheck-in counter at Canberra Airport until 2018. Read more about the Hudson's restoration process by Memorial staff in our blog, and share your photos of the Hudson with us on Instagram.

Lifeboat from Devanha

Lifeboat no 5 from the SS Devanha is on display in the Galleries of Remembrance at the Shrine of Remembrance in Melbourne.

MV Krait

MV Krait - a Japanese fishing vessel used during the Second World War - is on long term loan to the Australian National Maritime Museum in Sydney.

Palmyra Bust

The Palmyra Bust can be viewed at the Ian Potter Museum of Art at the University of Melbourne until September 2017.

Billy Boy

The billy boy painting by William Dobell is part of a retrospective on the artist at the TarraWarra Museum of Art. The Dobell's Circle exhibition is on display at the gallery from 27 May to 13 August 2017.

Light tank

A Stuart M3A1 Light Tank is on long term loan to the Canadian War Museum.
