This year marks the 100th anniversary of the battle for Beersheba, which took place on the 31 October 1917. The final phase of the battle was the famous mounted charge of the 4th Light Horse Brigade.

Judith Leman created this series of sculptures in recognition of the vital role played by horses in the First World War, as demonstrated in the battle of Beersheba. These sculptures are the artist's tribute to the horses killed and wounded in the First World War, and an expression of t he unique bond between a soldier and his equine companion.
