Hundreds of volunteers - thousands of hours
The Australian War Memorial has a long history of creating biographical databases which have aided military history research and public commemoration. These invaluable resources receive some of the highest visitor numbers on the Memorial’s website. These databases have been made possible by the effort of hundreds of volunteers:
First World War Embarkation Roll
ANF Engagement and Service Records 1903-1911
Malayan Emergency Rolls and Awards Registers
Indonesian Confrontation Rolls and Awards Registers
On National Volunteers Week we would like to thank the amazing volunteers who contributed so much behind the scenes work to create these databases. Our volunteers come from all parts of Australia and range in age from teenagers to those more than 90 years old. Our veteran community, as well as currently serving Australians, family historians, students, librarians and archivists, have also made significant contributions.
Watch this space as there are two more volunteer rolls on their way: Middle East - Recovered Prisoners of War (POW), Rolls, 1939-45 War and Japan – Embarkation Nominal Roll, British Commonwealth Occupation Force (BCOF) 1946-51
