Description
Plaster composite statuette of the Virgin Mary on a circular base. The statue shows Mary in a traditional stance with arms outstretched before her.
History / Summary
Associated with the service of VX46198 Sergeant Roderick Patrick Spain who served in 2/4 Reserve Motor Transport Company during the Second World War. Spain was born in Richmond, Victoria in 1901 and enlisted on 18 July 1940. He left Australia with 8 Division for service in Malaya on 9 April 1941. Sapin was captured by the Japanese in early 1942 and spent the remainder of the war as a prisoner of war. He returned to Australia on 30 September 1945 and was discharged on 17 February 1946.
