Description
Metal crucifix with a figure of Christ. The figure was originally soldered to the crucifix by the hands and mid section but has broken off at some point and is now affixed by two lengths of fine thread.
History / Summary
Associated with the service of VX46198 Sergeant Roderick Patrick Spain who served in 2/4 Reserve Motor Transport Company during the Second World War. Spain was born in Richmond, Victoria in 1901 and enlisted on 18 July 1940. He left Australia with 8 Division for service in Malaya on 9 April 1941. Sapin was captured by the Japanese in early 1942 and spent the remainder of the war as a prisoner of war. He returned to Australia on 30 September 1945 and was discharged on 17 February 1946.
