Case with crucifix and medallions : Sergeant R P Spain, 2/4 Reserve Motor Transport Company
Small leatherette covered black case containing an aluminium crucifix and eight aluminium religious medallions. The case is lined with a white cotton fabric that has been button hole stitched in place with black cotton. Four of the medallions have been sewn to the interior of the case with white cotton and the remaining four are separate.
Associated with the service of VX46198 Sergeant Roderick Patrick Spain who served in 4 Reserve Motor Transport Company during the Second World War. Spain was born in Richmond, Victoria in 1901 and enlisted on 18 July 1940. He left Australia with 8 Division for service in Malaya on 9 April 1941. Sapin was captured by the Japanese in early 1942 and spent the remainder of the war as a prisoner of war. He returned to Australia on 30 September 1945 and was discharged on 17 February 1946.
