Wrist watch : Sergeant W H Harris, 24 Squadron, RAAF
Description
Tissot brand brass wrist watch, without band. The face of the watch is rectangular and has printed in black 'TISSOT / NON MAGNETIC'. The reverse is hand engraved 'RAAF W H Harris 28117'. The inside of the rear cover has stamped 'TISSOT / NON MAGNETIC / GOLD FILLED / G / GUARANTEED / 10 YEARS / 434515'. The combined initials of presumably a watch repairer with the date 29-10-42 has also been inscribed inside of the rear cover along with the numbers '93341 / 148807'. On the rear of the watch mechanisms is stamped '1014128' with the Tissot logo.
History / Summary
This object is associated with the service of Sergeant William Henry Harris of 24 Squadron Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF). William Henry Harris was born on 16 July 1921 in Gawler South Australia. He was living at Broken Hill, New South Wales when he enlisted into the RAAF on 3 July 1940 and was allocated the service number 28117. He was discharged from the RAAF on 26 February 1946 with the rank of sergeant.
