Description

Studio portrait of 37395 Bombardier (Bdr) Ralph Alexander Colley, 30th Reinforcements, Field Artillery Brigade (FAB), of Kiama, NSW. Prior to enlistment on 22 February 1917 in the AIF, he served with the 29th Infantry, Citizens Military Forces. Bdr Colley embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Port Sydney on 5 November 1917. He died of wounds on 29 September 1918 near Peronne, France, whilst serving as a bombardier with 7th Battery, 3rd FAB, aged 24 years. His uncle, 6121 Private David Whittingham, 13th Battalion, of Kiama, NSW, was also killed in action on 4 February 1917 in France.
