Flight One Special Aviation Services uniform patch : Able Seaman R Beevor, RAN
Circular Velcro backed patch. The front of the patch is sky blue with the outer edge surrounded by an embroidered yellow rope. Within this border is embroidered in black lettering 'SPECIAL AVIATION SERVICES / FLT ONE / WHO CARES WHO WINS' which is a play on the Special Air Service (SAS) motto of 'Who Dares Wins'. In the middle of the patch is a Sea Hawk helicopter call sign 'RED BACK' with Flight 1's turtle mascot 'Crush' from the movie Finding Nemo fast roping from the helicopter with a Minimi machine gun.
The Flight 1 patch was worn by flight personnel during their deployment to the Persian Gulf from May to November 2005. Flight 1 was made up from personnel serving with 816 Squadron, RAN. Able Seaman Ryan Beevor served as an avionics technician to Flight 1 onboard HMAS Newcastle during this period.
