Swift, Elizabeth 'Beth', (Civilian)
Description
Collection relating to the wartime experiences of Elizabeth Swift (nee Sheridan) of Petersham, NSW. The collection consists of four letters and a note written to Elizabeth Sheridan (later Swift) by Telegraphist Jack Swift of the Royal Navy before and after their marriage on 5 September 1945. The letters were written on board HMS Formidable in July and November 1945. Also included in the collection are two letters and an envelope written to Elizabeth before her marriage, from her next door neighbour, Sergeant Langley Mayo-Jaffray. The letters are addressed to 'Bet' or 'Betty' Sheridan. The letters were written on 29 April 1941 and 1 January 1942 from Malaya where Mayo-Jaffray was killed in action on 11 February 1942.
