Description
Portrait of Telegraphist Jack Swift, Royal Navy who served on HMS Formidable. Jack met his wife Beth when a group of British sailors were invited to t Sheridan family home for a party. They were married at St Andrews cathedral in Sydney three months after meeting each other and with only a week's notice. Jack had not known when he was to return to Sydney but sent a telegram: "Come home, getting married friday". This portrait was sent to Beth and she sent one of herself (P08635.001), taken at her sister's wedding, which was sent to Jack aboard HMS Formidable so they had portraits of each other.
