Description
Informal portrait of Miss Beth Sheridan, bridesmaid at her sister's wedding. Beth sent it to Telegraphist Jack Swift, RN whom she later married on 5 September 1945. Jack met his wife Beth when a group of British sailors were invited to her family's house for a party. They were married at St Andrews cathedral three months after meeting each other and with only a week's notice. Jack had not known when he was to return to Sydney but sent a telegram: "Come home, getting married friday". This portrait was sent to Jack aboard HMS Formidable and he sent one of himself in uniform (P08715.001) so they had portraits of each other.
