Gray, Robert Albert
Collection relating to the the Second World War service of NX31913 Private (Pte) Robert Albert Gray who served at the 5th Australian General Hospital in Greece. He was captured on 27 April 1941 after the hospital staff were ordered to remain behind to treat wounded allied prisoners of war (POW) following the evacuation. After remaining in Greece for eight months he was transferred to Stammlager XXA camp at Thorn, Poland. Collection comprises an an airgram and three POW postcards written in 1942 and 1943 by Pte Gray to Miss Daphne Gray in Sydney and Braidwood, NSW, whilst he was a POW of the Germans. Also includes one airgraph written by Pte Gray to Daphne from the Reception Centre after he was liberated from the POW camp in November 1943, and a POW postcard written in 1942 by Pte Gray to Mr Joe Gray in Braidwood, NSW. Pte Gray returned to Australia in 1944. See also related Private Records Collection PR03865.
