Description

Group portrait of soldiers from the 52nd Battalion. Identified front row, far left is 3400 Sgt John Alexander Spence DCM MM, Fremantle, WA; middle row, right is 3404 Lance Corporal Alfred James Wells, Bayswater, WA; back row, far left is 3402 Pte William John Thornton, Popanyinning, WA. The 52nd Battalion was largely made up of men transferred from the 12th Battalion hence the cancelled 12th Battalion colour patch worn by this group. (See also P10550.014, P10550.028 and P10550.029)
