Identified back row, second from left is 3370 Private (Pte) John Frederick Graham, Bayswater WA; back row, fourth from left 3402 Pte William John Thornton, Popanyinning, WA; back row, right is 3346 Sapper (Spr) Fred Wilfred Ainley MSM, 4th Divisional Signal Company, Jolimont, WA. Second row, left is 3376 Pte Francis Xavier Heerey, Kalgoorlie, WA. Third row, left is 3364 Corporal (Cpl) William Frank Bernard Creech, Leederville, WA; third row, second from left is 3382 Pte Oscar Lundgren, Fremantle, WA; third row, centre is 3395 Cpl James Davie Renner, Fremantle, WA. Front row, centre is 3400 Sergeant John Alexander Spence DCM MM, Fremantle, WA; front row, second from right is 3404 Lance Corporal Alfred James Wells, Bayswater, WA; and front row, right is 3401 Cpl Thomas Wilkinson James Telfer, West Leederville, WA. The 52nd Battalion was largely made up of men transferred from the 12th Battalion hence the cancelled 12th Battalion colour patch worn by this group.
