Menzies tour, Middle East and Palestine
The Australian Prime Minister Mr Robert Gordon Menzies toured the Middle East and Palestine visiting Australian sailors, soldiers and airmen at Jerusalem (at the Australian Soldiers Club), Julis, Beit Jerja, Deir Suneid, Bardia, Tobruk and Benghazi. Australian troops and Sir Harold MacMichael, KCMG, DSO, High Commisioner for Palestine. Identified personnel are: Brigadier A S Allen, Brigadier George Frederick Wootten, Major General I G Mackay and Captain Sir Philip W Bowyer-Smyth, HMAS Perth. Identified units are: No 23 General Hospital and 2/1 Australian Infantry Battalion. Also seen are 2/3 Australian Infantry Battalion in Wadi Avda and men of the 1st Australian Anti-Tank Company. Sound on Reel 2 only showing Prime Minister Menzies facing camera speaking into a microphone during a review of Australian troops.
