OBOZERSKIY, USSR. GRAVE OF SERGEANT S.G PEARSE, VC MM OF THE AIF AND NORTH RUSSIA RELIEF FORCE. PEARSE WAS DISCHARGED FROM THE AIF IN BRITAIN AFTER BEING AWARDED THE MILITARY MEDAL FOR BRAVERY AT YPRES WHILST SERVING WITH THE 2ND MACHINE GUN COMPANY. FOLLOWING HIS DISCHARGE ON 1919-07-18 HE JOINED THE NORTH RUSSIA RELIEF FORCE WITH THE 45TH BATTALION, ROYAL FUSILIERS. HE WAS INVOLVED IN FIGHTING ALONG THE RAILWAY SOUTH OF ARCHANGEL AND WAS KILLED DURING THE FINAL ASSAULT ON 1919-08-29 NEAR EMTSA. SERGEANT PEARSE WAS POSTHUMOUSLY AWARDED THE VICTORIA CROSS FOR EXTREME BRAVERY IN THE FACE OF THE ENEMY. HIS AIF REGIMENTAL NUMBER HAD BEEN 2870 AND HIS BRITISH HAD BEEN 133002.
