Letters from Hugh Barr to his mother, 1917
Letters relating to the First World War service of Sergeant Hugh Barr, 44th Battalion. In these letters to his mother Barr writes of: the strain the 44th Battalion had been under in the Ypres sector; dealing with high casualties and incessant mud; his promotion to corporal; that we will be sending more money home; concern for his family and that there are not many “old boys” left in the battalion. Barr was killed in action on 13 October 1917 in Belgium.
